Las autoridades migratorias chilenas, a trav\u00e9s del Servicio Nacional de Migraciones, precisaron recientemente los criterios aplicables a la continuidad de la Residencia Temporal, aclarando que, como regla general, la mayor\u00eda de sus subcategor\u00edas admite pr\u00f3rrogas sucesivas, siempre que se mantengan las condiciones que dieron origen al otorgamiento inicial del permiso.
Conforme a la normativa vigente, estos permisos pueden renovarse por per\u00edodos de hasta dos a\u00f1os de manera consecutiva, sin que exista una obligaci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica de postular a la residencia definitiva una vez cumplidos 48 meses de residencia temporal acumulada. Esta interpretaci\u00f3n busca otorgar mayor certeza jur\u00eddica y flexibilidad a las personas extranjeras que han optado por establecerse en Chile bajo este estatus migratorio.
No obstante, el marco normativo contempla excepciones espec\u00edficas. En el caso de los trabajadores de temporada, el r\u00e9gimen es m\u00e1s restrictivo, permitiendo \u00fanicamente una pr\u00f3rroga adicional de hasta dos a\u00f1os, tras lo cual el permiso pierde vigencia.
De igual forma, el permiso especial otorgado a mujeres extranjeras en situaci\u00f3n de embarazo constituye una medida estrictamente temporal y no admite pr\u00f3rroga, por lo que resulta necesario gestionar oportunamente un cambio de categor\u00eda migratoria para mantener una estad\u00eda regular en Chile.
Finalmente, es fundamental considerar que toda solicitud de pr\u00f3rroga debe presentarse dentro de los noventa (90) d\u00edas previos al vencimiento del permiso vigente.
