The European Parliament has approved a reform of the European Union’s Social Security coordination rules, a measure designed to facilitate labour mobility between Member States and strengthen the protection of workers who live or work in a country other than their own. The proposal was adopted with 511 votes in favour, 87 against, and 61 abstentions, following nearly ten years of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
La reforma establece que las prestaciones por desempleo de los trabajadores transfronterizos ser\u00e1n asumidas por el pa\u00eds donde hayan cotizado. Asimismo, ampl\u00eda de tres a seis meses el per\u00edodo durante el cual estas prestaciones podr\u00e1n exportarse cuando el trabajador traslade su residencia a otro Estado miembro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adem\u00e1s, el nuevo marco refuerza la coordinaci\u00f3n entre los Estados miembros mediante la simplificaci\u00f3n de procedimientos, el intercambio de informaci\u00f3n y medidas para mejorar el control del fraude. The reform provides that unemployment benefits for cross-border workers will be paid by the country where they have paid Social Security contributions. It also extends the period during which these benefits can be exported when moving to another EU Member State from three to six months. In addition, the new framework strengthens coordination between Member States by simplifying administrative procedures, improving information exchange, and reinforcing measures to combat fraud. It also introduces common rules on long-term care benefits, family benefits, and access to healthcare coverage for certain individuals.
