The European Commission is developing the European Social Security Pass (ESSPASS), an initiative designed to make it easier to access and share Social Security documents digitally across the European Union.
Through the future European Digital Identity Wallet, documents such as the European Health Insurance Card and the A1 certificate will be available for electronic storage and verification, simplifying procedures for companies and posted workers while supporting international mobility.
What will ESSPASS enable?
The system will allow competent authorities to carry out real-time checks, helping to streamline processes and prevent fraud.
At the same time, citizens will retain control over their personal data and will continue to have access to physical alternatives when needed.
When will ESSPASS be implemented?
The implementation of ESSPASS will begin once the initiative has been approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
Its development represents another step towards a more efficient, secure and digital approach to managing Social Security rights across Europe.
