Mexico: Travel Alerts and Protection Measures Amid the Iran-Israel Conflict

In response to rising tensions in the Middle East and the Iran-Israel conflict during February and March 2026, Mexican embassies and consulates across the region, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), have implemented a series of protection, assistance, and alert measures for Mexican citizens residing in or traveling through the area.

Key measures implemented

Maximum travel alert: The SRE has advised against non-essential travel to Iran and Israel due to the current security situation.

Activation of consular protection protocols: Mexican embassies in Iran, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Kuwait continue to monitor the situation closely and provide consular assistance to Mexican nationals.

Direct communication and SIRME registration: Authorities have asked Mexican citizens to update their information in the Registration System for Mexicans Abroad (SIRME) in order to maintain direct communication and receive official updates.

Security recommendations: The SRE urged Mexican nationals to remain in safe locations, avoid conflict zones, keep travel documents valid and accessible, store digital copies of personal documents, keep mobile phones charged, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Flight and mobility assistance: Due to possible airspace closures, diplomatic missions have advised travelers to check directly with airlines regarding flight status before heading to airports.

Communication with family members in Mexico: Mexico’s Foreign Ministry also urged citizens in the Middle East to keep relatives in Mexico informed about their location and situation, while ensuring that passports and official documents remain valid.
