United States: New Paid Option to Expedite B-1/B-2 Visa Interview Appointments

The U.S. Department of State has announced a new pilot program that will allow certain applicants for B-1/B-2 visas (business and tourism) to access an expedited consular interview by paying an additional fee of USD 750.

The measure will take effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain available through December 31, 2026, at selected U.S. embassies and consulates. The new fee will be charged in addition to the standard visa application fee of USD 185, bringing the total cost of the expedited service to USD 935.

According to the regulations published by the Department of State, applicants who choose this option may be able to obtain a visa interview appointment within up to 10 business days, provided the service is available at the selected consular post.

It is important to note that payment of the additional fee does not guarantee visa approval or alter the eligibility criteria. The measure simply provides access to an earlier interview appointment, while the evaluation process remains unchanged. The Department of State has also indicated that this initiative should not affect the availability of standard interview appointments for other applicants.

At this time, the list of embassies and consulates where the expedited service will be available has not yet been published.
