According to recent statements from a U.S. Department of State spokesperson, the U.S. Administration has temporarily paused the scheduling of immigrant visa appointments worldwide.
As a result, applicants with interviews already scheduled at U.S. embassies and consulates are receiving notifications that their appointments have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
What is behind the temporary pause?
The temporary suspension is due to the introduction of an internal training programme for consular officers, aimed at strengthening and standardising the criteria used to assess applications.
Which visas are affected?
The measure applies exclusively to immigrant visas, which are associated with permanent residence or a Green Card.
Nonimmigrant visas are not included in the pause. This includes temporary categories for employment, intracompany transfers, business or study, such as H-1B, L-1, B1/B2 and F-1 visas, among others.
Nevertheless, applicants are advised to plan ahead in case of possible scheduling adjustments at U.S. consular posts.
