Chile: New Regulation Modernizes the Recognition of Foreign Degrees
Chilean authorities have officially published a new regulation governing the recognition and validation of academic degrees obtained abroad. The reform aims to decentralize the process by allowing additional universities — beyond the University of Chile — to carry out degree validation procedures, provided they have at least five years of accreditation.
Among the most notable changes are the inclusion of higher technical degrees and the creation of a standardized fee system, with the Ministry of Education responsible for establishing the applicable fees.
The new regulation also introduces clearer processing timelines and the possibility of appealing decisions. These measures are intended to provide greater legal certainty for migrant professionals seeking to integrate into the Chilean labor market.
